Hurricane Nicole was the 8th hurricane of 2022 and only the 3rd hurricane recorded to hit Florida’s coast in the month of November. Nicole inflicted substantial damage to the east coastline when it made landfall near Vero Beach. The National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) estimates the damage from Nicole to be over $1 billion dollars.

With the state still mending from the damages sustained by Hurricane Ian in September, Hurricane Nicole ripped up the east side of the state at maximum sustained winds of 74 mph. As the hurricane moved north, ocean surges damaged a 7-mile section of State Road A1A. Water levels made record highs in areas surpassing Hurricane Matthew’s record from 2012. Volusia County experienced significant beach erosion causing many beachfront condominiums and hotels to collapse.

Hurricane damage is multi-faceted, with various causes of loss in effect. When a hurricane damages a property, it is imperative to have a claim advocate reviewing the claim and representing the property owner. Insurance companies and their representatives are inundated with claims and often do not adequately assess damages in accordance with the policy’s coverage allotment.

When your property sustains damage, be sure to find a representative specializing in your property type who is also experienced in the loss peril. These factors significantly affect an insurance claim’s success and the speed at which a settlement can be finalized.
